How to write your date me doc

Seeing what others have done helps. Here's what makes a good one.

What to include

The best docs feel like a conversation. They're honest, specific, and give someone enough to know whether they want to reach out. Most people cover some combination of:

  • The basics - age, location, what you do, relationship style
  • Who you are - personality, quirks, what your life looks like day-to-day
  • What you value - in life, in a partner, in a relationship
  • The honest parts - your flaws, your baggage, what you're working on
  • What you're looking for - be specific about the kind of connection you want
  • How to reach out - tell people what to say or mention if they're interested

Tips

  • Be specific. "I love cooking" is forgettable. "I make a different pasta shape from scratch every Sunday" is a person.
  • Include the unflattering stuff. A profile that's all highlights doesn't feel real. The flaws and contradictions are what make someone want to meet you.
  • Write more than you think you need to. This isn't a dating app bio. 500 to 2,000 words is the range where most good docs land. The right person will read every word.
  • Use your own voice. Don't write how you think you should sound. Write how you'd actually explain yourself to a friend.
  • Add photos throughout. Not just at the top. Show your life, not just your face.
